With Gustave Flaubert's, The Temptation of Saint Anthony, is about a 3rd century Saint living the life of an ascetic. Going to the Basilica of St. Anthony in Padua where bones of the Saint are kept was a special experience. You feel the order of St. Anthony, is somewhere in the heart that reaches Gods garden. St. Anthony was tempted by evil. This you will come across in several representations of St. Anthony in the history of art. His own personal demons seem to haunt him like the devil. The life of an ascetic would be a love of God and not anything other than a vow of silence. Most Saints from the early centuries would have experienced a life without people.
