Thoreau on the hand speaks of nature equalling Heaven. His time with an equation of the simple life, spent in his birthplace, was making a small cabin in the country by hand with his own heating. He lived there writing philosophy for two years. Few people would understand to find God in the landscape despite the art of this century. What he was known for is living the life of a Christian philosopher in search of nature. His transcendentalist view would be an equation of nature via purity like a river stream, nothing to do with Puritanism. Thoreau would have been a Platonic thinker meaning he was a philosopher of love and found the love of God in a Heavenly view of nature.
