Ananke   Necessity

And then all's as it was: the stars' decree,
Necessity and law; our will's no more
Than willing what we had and have to be;
That will outwills us; wishes, wants, implore
It vainly, and we lose most cruelly
What we love most; our heart is dumb before
The strict command. Thus, seeming free, we know
Ourselves trapped faster than long years ago.
Goethe
